International Workshop "Prominent Inferences"
The International Workshop "Prominent Inferences" takes place online via Zoom, September 17-18 2020, in the framework of the series "Workshops on Referential Expressions in Discourse (RED)". It is organized by Jet Hoek (Radboud University) and Klaus von Heusinger (University of Cologne).
Prominence at the discourse level can be characterized as an organizational principle centered in discourse representation. Units of a same type are ranked in prominence hierarchy, which can change as the discourse unfolds. In this workshop, we focus on the relation between prominence and inferences. We investigate the prominence of inferences themselves, but also ask how inferences affect the prominence of other elements in the discourse, for example discourse referents.
The workshop aims to bring together researchers from different fields in linguistics: psycholinguistics, syntax and semantics, typology, and diachrony.

The workshop is organized by Jet Hoek (Radboud University) and Klaus von Heusinger (University of Cologne).
